Autumn 1
Autumn 1 started with the topic of senses. We used our ears to hear different things as went on a listening walk around the garden.
During our week on the sense of taste we tried some different foods, some tasted nice and some tasted horrible!
We visited the library for the first time and got to choose a book to take back to school.
During our week on the sense of smell, we got a special visit from Police Dog Lewy and his handler. Lewy amazed us all by being able to find his hidden tennis ball using his amazing sense of smell.
We learned about Diwali. A lady came to show us how to make rangoli patterns and she talked about what Diwali is and who celebrates it.
Autumn 2
In Autumn 2 we learned about nocturnal animals. We enjoyed reading fiction and non-fiction books about owls and hedgehogs.
During this half term we raised money for Children in Need.
We went on a hunt around the school for pictures of owls, using positional language to describe where they were.
In December, we visited the Gala Theatre to see the production of ‘One More Sleep’.
We performed ‘Cock-A-Doodle-Christmas’ to the whole school and our families.
We visited the church for our Christmas carol service. We sang a song called ‘Dazzling Angels’.
We had our Christmas party and got to meet Santa!
Spring 1
In Spring 1 we covered the topic of ‘Space’. We enjoyed learning about the moon and the planets. We read books about aliens and designed our own aliens.
This term we started the tooth-brushing programme. We brush our teeth every day after lunch.
We celebrated Chinese New Year by making dragon masks and paper chains and by tasting stir-fry and fortune cookies. We read the story of the Chinese zodiac animals and put the animals into the right order.
We read the story of ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and we enjoyed ordering the different events of the story.
Spring 2
In Spring 2 our topic was ‘Pirates’. We enjoyed playing in the pirate ship role play area and getting dressed up as pirates!
We celebrated Pancake Day by tasting pancakes with different toppings.
We got dressed up as our favourite storybook characters for World Book Day.
The whole school took part in a Science Day. In Reception, we explored ‘floating and sinking’ and carried out experiments. We tried to make boats that would float using plasticine.
The end of the half term brought us new challenges as we had to get used to learning from home, and we are missing our friends and teachers. We are looking forward to more adventures when school reopens.
